Why do people still buy teacups/designer dogs knowing that they come from bad places?

I have a 9 year old Yorkie that I adopted from www.petfinder.org He was 7 years old at the time and his only crime was being there when the new baby came. He had a lot of issues(understandably) but I give him extra love and attention and he's the sweetest most lovable little guy.
