Cat on prednisone losing hair?

My 5 yr old cat was put on prednisone for some asthma she's been experiencing lately. She has severely damaged lungs from a house fire almost 2 years ago and the bottom half of her lungs do not function. I came home from the store today to find HUGE clumps of hair all over my house. Enough to fill my bathroom garbage can. I confirmed some skin I found connected to some of the chunks by checking her back and sure enough she had these bald spots. They looked smooth, not inflamed or red at all. I was wondering if her being on prednisone would cause any kind of side-effect where this might happen? We do have another cat, and they aren't the best of friends, but I have NEVER seen this much hair. I'm concerned maybe she's stressed and its being compounded by the medication. Anyone know if this is possible? The only thing I could find was that prednisone can cause "poor haircoat", and I'm not really sure if thats the same thing. Thanks for your help!
