My friend is writing a story and she needs an I dea for a Sci-Fi type of book plot?

She wants to write a Sci-Fi story, but she needs ideas! She has come up with a couple...but they are kind of ...lame. She can write a really good story once she knows the plot or how to begin it! So please idea are much appreiciated:)
