Bumpie Johnson was a Harlem gangster in the 1930 to 1950s?
Oh yes, some say he owned Harlem, some say no. some say he was the imp for the white Italian gangsters. I really thought he was fictional when I first saw Hoodlum back in the 90s but my father, who lived in Harlem when he first came to the US in the 1950s, told me specifically that he seen him on the streets, and then when I did my own research, I found that this man truly existed. His widow, Mrs Mayme Hather Johnson, who is in her 90s, along with writer Karen Quinones Miller, just wrote a book on his life, "Harlem Godfather" which I am happy to say that I played a part in by paying for a copy in order for it to be self published last year can be bought at Amazon.com or through www.karenequinonesmiller.com
